Financing CNC Machines to Stay Competitive
American manufacturing is coming home — and the order books show it. The 2026 USA Reshoring Survey found 36% of U.S. original equipment manufacturers have reshored or are actively reshoring, up from 29% last year. Meanwhile, U.S. metalworking machinery orders hit $2.19 billion in just the first four months of 2026, up nearly 29% from the same stretch of 2025. Shops across the country are quoting reshoring work — and discovering whether their iron is up to the job.
Here’s the uncomfortable question for a lot of machine shops: can a 10-year-old machining center win — and hold — that new contract? Research from First National Capital’s 2026 Manufacturing CapEx Outlook puts maintenance costs in years 8–10 of a CNC machine’s life at 2.3 times mid-life levels. Add in slower cycle times, rejected parts, and the jobs you decline because the machine is down, and that “paid-for” machine starts looking expensive.
The capacity crunch is real
Reshoring doesn’t wait for your budget cycle. Customers want domestic suppliers now — for speed to market and supply-chain stability. If your spindle is the bottleneck, someone else’s shop gets the PO. Shops that add capacity ahead of the curve get first pick of the reshoring wave.
Why financing beats paying cash for your next machine
Writing a six-figure check drains the working capital you need for material, tooling, and payroll. Financing lets the machine help pay for itself:
- Keep your cash free. Hold onto working capital for the things only cash covers — payroll, materials, and the next surprise opportunity.
- Match payments to production. The machine starts earning from day one; structured payments can align with the revenue it generates.
- Refresh before you’re forced to. Replacing a machine on your schedule costs less than replacing it when it dies mid-job — plus you may be able to consider Section 179 expensing for qualifying equipment placed in service this year.*
- Compete for the work. Newer, more capable machines (multi-axis centers, automation-ready platforms) let you quote tighter tolerances and faster turnarounds — the work that’s moving back onshore.
What we finance
CNC mills and lathes, multi-axis machining centers, CNC routers, EDM, waterjets, and supporting automation — new and used, from single-machine shops to growing production floors. Get an estimate of your monthly payment in seconds and share a formal proposal PDF with your vendor.
Try it yourself: our Payment Estimator shows your estimated monthly payment range — then call 800-603-3945 or email Sales@firstoptioncapital.net to talk through your equipment plans with First Option Capital.
*Tax rules change and every business is different — talk to your CPA about how Section 179 applies to you before making equipment decisions.
